“The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future” - Theodore Roosevelt
At Wellesley Park Primary School our history curriculum aims to inspire our pupil’s curiosity to know more about the past. History helps pupils to understand the process of change, the diversity of societies as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. Our history curriculum will equip the children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence and develop perspective and judgement.
Our history teaching at Wellesley Park equips our children to critically evaluate information. Our younger pupils are taught to compare the past with their present experiences, noticing and evaluating the changes that have had an impact on our present lives. Children are introduced to significant people in history that have contributed to national and international achievement. We also explore historical events and influential people within our locality. Older children are taught to be selective when sourcing information and developing their own ideas and perspectives.
Developing a rich understanding of history enables our children to have a broad knowledge on which to base their opinions and perspectives on the world we live in today. Historical knowledge gives children the introduction to social and democratic constructs which supports all areas of learning.
